A Taste of Brunch Photo Shoot | Arkansas Advertising Photographer

Are you hungry yet???

A few weeks ago, I teamed up with the creative team at P. Allen Smith, partnering with Bonnie Plants, to work on their latest issue of "A Taste of the Garden"

We photographed this issue over two days at a private home in Little Rock featuring all things brunch. I photographed a variety of items ranging from potato hash to mini pancakes to savory butters.

The brunch table setting, designed and styled by Laura Grimes, featured bright summer colors in hues of purple, green and orange. I also have to give a shout-out to Victoria Gross and her fabulous cooking skills. The chocolate and mint mini pancakes pictured below were just as tasty as it sounds.

This was probably one of my favorite photo shoots for P. Allen Smith. Food photography is easily one of my favorite things to photograph. I just love the challenges it brings. I am overwhelmingly pleased with the photos and based on the feedback I've heard, so are my clients.

When it rains, don't fight it. Play in it.

It's been a miserably wet spring. So many of my photo shoots were either postponed due to rain, or moved indoors. My photo shoot for the June issue of Little Rock Special Family was no exception. But photographing two very active children indoors is not ideal.

So instead of fighting the rain (downpour actually), we played in it. 

Literally.

Special Family: June

This issue of Special Family features the Carper family. The story features both Caroline and her brother cole. Both kids have a rare inherited eye disease that appears early in life and is responsible for blindness or very low vision. But today, both children have the gift of sight thanks to a ground-breaking surgery. You can read more on the family, and see more photos, in their digital issue. 

Also featured in this same issue of Little Rock Special Family is a fun story on a program that offers job training and life skills to those with developmental disabilities. I photographed the B.R.A.V.O. (Bridging Recreational and Vocational Opportunities) Program at Independent Care Management (ICM).


The non-profit organization services Arkansans with disabilities. I photographed those who work at Biscuits, a local retail store in Little Rock that makes gourmet pet treats. You can read more on the program by going here.






Kent Walker Artisan Cheese | Little Rock Arkansas Commercial Photographer

My latest photo shoot with Arkansas Business was very cheesy.

Literally.

I met up with and photographed Kent Walker owner and lead cheesemaker Kent Walker Artisan Cheese. I honestly didn't know that cheesemaker was an actual title but it does exist.

Walker launched a campaign in February on Kickstarter, one of the best-known crowdfunding sites, to raise $10,000 to remodel the tasting room at his location at 323 S. Cross St. in downtown Little Rock (the old Diamond Bear Beer spot) Walker makes cheese at the facility, sells his products there and holds wine and cheese tastings. You can even take a tour and see how everything is made.

You may have noticed the word "Artisan" is tossed around way too liberally in the food world. Restaurants and food manufacturers ranging from you corner fast food joint to big box brands at your local grocery store now carries something that is artisan.

The word artisan is a cross between "artist" and "craftsman" and simply means a person or company that makes a high-quality or distinctive products in small quantities, usually by hand or using traditional methods. In the time I spent at Kent Walker Artisan Cheese, EVERYTHING is made by hand. You can sit in their tasting room and watch them for yourself. You can even see Kent in the cheese cave flipping rounds of chesse, one at a time and by hand.

You can also buy his cheeses at many local spots including: Terry's Finer Foods, Hillcrest Farmers Market, The Savory Pantry and Ozark Natural Foods.

During the photo shoot, I sampled (and savored) several of his cheeses including the Garlic Montasio and Habanero Cheddar. If you're a connoisseur of fine cheeses, I highly recommend a visit.
